The TCA team is delighted to be recognised with the inaugural Forest Industries Innovation in Training Award, announced at a Gala Dinner hosted by the Australian Forest Products Association in Canberra on 12th September.
The Innovation in Training Award, sponsored by Forestworks, was received for the TCA Young Community Ambassadors’ Initiative. The Initiative has created new opportunities to upskill, build knowledge and networks to encourage the under 35’s in local communities to promote their sustainable industry.
500 industry supporters filled the Great Hall in Parliament House, surrounded by its stunning Australian native feature timbers. Guest of honour was the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, who signalled strong support for the industry.
Mr Turnbull spoke movingly about the Ngunnawal people of the southern tablelands Canberra region, 60,000 years ago harvesting the timber and forest products of the Canberra region, making utensils, tools, shelter and all the things they needed.
He described timber in 2017 as “a thoroughly modern and dynamic industry”.
Senator Anne Ruston, the Assistant Minister for Forestry, introduced the Prime Minister and spoke of her admiration of and affection for the industry and its great future potential.
