Member feedback is invited to inform us ahead of preparation of a TCA Submission to an Issues Paper from the Forestry Industry Advisory Council (FIAC).
The Paper is titled Meeting Future Market Demand – Australia’s Forest Products and Forest Industry. This is a golden opportunity for TCA members to feed into the FIAC process. Find it at http://www.agriculture.gov.au/forestry/industries/fiac
The Issues Paper looks at opportunities and challenges ahead. It is the first step towards development of a final paper from FIAC later this year.
This is an important opportunity to bring TCA member views into the future thinking for the industry, particularly as TCA is the only national group solely focussed on the community perspective. Please share your views.
FIAC is co-chaired by Senator the Hon. Richard Colbeck, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, and Rob de Fégely, president of the Institute of Foresters’ of Australia. Their foreword points out, “In addition to being a vital contributor to many regional economies, the sector is also a vital part of the social fabric of these communities.”
FIAC’s Terms of Reference require it to provide advice specific to the responsibility of the Australian Government on:
- issues facing Australia’s forestry sector
- initiatives to foster investment, growth and the sustainability of Australia’s forestry sector
- infrastructure priorities for continued growth
- strategic priorities to support industry best practice
- long term planning for research and development investments
- other forestry issues as requested.
