I am delighted to enclose an invitation for you to participate in this new initiative.
Supported by Forestworks Industry Skills Council, the National Regional Community Engagement Innovation Working Group will provide an opportunity for interested stakeholders to take a fresh look at community engagement and ways to build skills and capacity.
Forest related industries are expected to deliver on a trifecta of environmental, economic and social outcomes. Meaningful industry/community engagement helps with the social license for industry to operate. This is relevant for individual businesses and community leaders as well as the sector as a whole (plantation and native forest timber).
Community actions and reactions impact in numerous ways on the industry. Social components are built into certification (both AFS and FSC) systems. More broadly, public perceptions affect the industry in tangible ways.
Timber Communities Australia looks forward to collaborating with you and others who are interested in innovation in community engagement, whether this be for defined local community settings or communities of interest (i.e. people sharing common interests in timber/forest issues).
I hope to see you and/or your colleagues at one of the working group gatherings in Melbourne (Vic), Campbell Town (Tas), Mt Gambier (SA), Bunbury (WA) Albury (NSW) or Sunshine Coast (Qld).
The aim is to provide an opportunity for interested stakeholders to take a fresh look at community engagement and ways to collaborate and build skills and capacity.
